Gospel Sacrifice

If you haven't seen End of the Spear, I suggest you go to Blockbuster and rent a copy. It is a phenomenal story about a group of passionate missionaries who give their lives to reach the Waodani people of Ecuador. Here is a glimpse into the hearts of the missionaries as they prepared for their calling:

"As we weigh the future and seek the will of God, does it seem right that we should hazard our lives for just a few savages? As we ask ourselves this question, we realize that it is not the call of the needy thousands, rather it is simple intimation of the prophetic Word that there shall be some from every tribe in His presence in the last day and in our hearts we feel that it is pleasing to Him that we should interest ourselves in making an opening into the Auca prison for Christ."
-Nate Saint, excerpt from Through Gates of Splendor by Elisabeth Elliot

What a great view of Scripture! Clearly, Saint and his fellow missionaries understood God's desire to save all of His people. I pray my generation would come to this same point of understanding Scripture. And I pray we would rise up and go to the ends of the Earth to proclaim the glorious name of Jesus Christ!

I heard another story today about two young men who sold themselves into slavery so that they could go to an island of only slaves and preach the Gospel. As the men were leaving behind their families and friends, one of them shouted back to their loved ones, "Shall not the Lamb have the full reward of His suffering?" What an example of sacrifice!

Praise God for being gracious enough to allow us to claim His name! May we not take it for granted and may we spread His glory to all the nations!

In Him,

Mark

  1. So check out the story of Jim Elliot's less known brother, Bert. He and his wife, Colleen, have been serving in Peru for sixty years.
    I love you!
